I find it quicker, easier to configure (and maintain configuration) and more powerful.
I'm happy to hear any advice about the points above, because I'd really like to switch to Vim.

Is there a way of automatic formatting/indentation of LaTeX code similar to AUCTeX's C-c C-q C-s? Vim's indentation commands don't seem to work properly, or perhaps I just don't know how to use them properly. (Since XEmacs 21 or GNU Emacs 23, you can open an Emacs window from a running X instance inside a terminal.) Turning the tables, I have observed Vim taking noticeably longer to load than Emacs (vim -u /dev/null vs. Is there something similar to AUCTeX's Preview-mode offered by any Vim plugin? You can also edit remote files from within Emacs, but it does break the flow if you’re in an ssh 0session in a terminal. MacVim is more integrated in the whole OS than Vim in the Terminal or even GVim in Linux, it follows a lot of Mac OS X's conventions. GNU Emacs has improved a fair amount, but the irreconcilable differences between the projects continue, with no resolution in sight. The previous major revision occurred on January 1, 2001, by me.
Which plugins do you recommend? I've been trying LaTeX-Box and it seems nice, but perhaps there are better solutions? Anything you are used to do in Vim will work exactly the same way in MacVim. Much of this page was written over a decade ago, by somebody other than the current editor, possibly Ben Wing. The difference is that you can use shortcut keys such as Ctrl-f and Ctrl-b to move the cursor around within the file, rather than reaching for. I am a Vim person, but I think I’m being mostly unbiased when I say that that Vim’s main strength is its intuitive command structure that allows you to infinitely grow in capability by just learning the basics. The interface in Emacs is relatively straightforward it functions much like the simple text editors that you have probably used before, like Notepad, for example. Even more interesting look at how small the Emacs footprint is.

The most important reason people chose Spacemacs is: Spacemacs combines the Emacs platform (with the full power of the Emacs plugin ecosystem) and the Vi keybindings (via EViL), all in the same box. So to anyone who's using Vim for editing TeX files, here are my questions: Vim and Emacs are both extremely powerful text editors, and each has its own rabid following. Spacemacs is ranked 4th while MacVim is ranked 18th. As far as general Vim usage is concerned, I can always consult numerous online resources, but it seems that not so many people are using Vim for LaTeX. I'm a long-time Emacs+AUCTeX user (I even once wrote a short tutorial for it!), but for a couple of different reasons (problems maintaining my Emacs configuration, the beauty of Drew Neil's voice, and simply embracing the uncomfortable) I began looking at (Mac)Vim.
